The BEST 17th Episode Ever : "The Road Back to You"
Updated: Jun 9, 2020
"The point of it (the Enneagram) is self-understanding and growing beyond the self-defeating dimensions of our personality, as well as improving relationships and growing in compassion for others." –– The Road Back to You
Sounds great! Let's do this!
As explained in the book The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile, the Enneagram is "an ancient personality typing system. It helps people understand who they are and what makes them tick." That is one of the author's 5-second elevator speech. But as we discover, in our longest podcast episode to date (Holly, I won something!!), using the Enneagram as a tool for personal growth, spiritual transformation and becoming our truest and best selves is far from simple. It is a painful, intense and lifelong process.
The BBCE represents four unique numbers on the Enneagram : 2, 3, 5 & 9. As you can imagine, that has presented us with some challenges in understanding each other over the years. You will hear in this week's show how the Enneagram has been a gift for our friendships. We also talk about how the Enneagram has shed light on our own struggles and how we have seen the transforming power of grace in our lives. As the Bible says, "We ... are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another." 2 Corinthians 3:18
We hope you will join us in this discussion about the Enneagram! We are doing a listener segment in next week's show (which will probably surpass this week for the title of longest episode -- yikes!) When you let an Enneagram #9 host a podcast, she may meander and get lost and then keep going and going and going.....Oh! Hello. Was I talking to you? I think I was asking for listener feedback. So tell us YOUR Enneagram number and let us know any ways the Enneagram has helped you.
Quotes from the book “To know oneself is, above all, to know what one lacks. It is to measure oneself against Truth, and not the other way around. The first product of self-knowledge is humility.” Flannery O’Connor.
“Sins are fixations that prevent the energy of life, God’s love, from flowing freely. They are self-erected blockades that cut us off from God and hence from our own authentic potential.” Father Richard Rohr "Paradoxically, the road to peace and harmony is littered with conflict and disharmony. Scrupulously avoid anything that promises a life of peace and tranquility without conflict or pain. Whatever it is will probably end you up in rehab." Show Notes
