The BEST 11th Episode Ever : "The Choice: Embrace the Possible"
Updated: Apr 16, 2020
“I did not yet know that nightmares know no geography, that guilt and anxiety wander borderless. I had escaped, but I wasn’t yet free.” Edith Eger
This week we are back to our regular book discussion. Boy, do we have an excellent book we believe everyone should read. Oprah also agrees with us :) Or maybe it's the other way around... This week we will be discussing The Choice: Embrace the Possible by Dr. Edith Eva Eger. Edith is a holocaust survivor who seamlessly weaves the story of her imprisonment and survival throughout her whole life. Edith did not have this book published until she was 90 years old. She gives practical advice about choices each human being has on this planet. We can be captive to our thoughts, anxieties, and circumstances, or we can choose to be free. It isn't that black and white. I am not a writer, so please take my word for it and read her book. Dr. Eger's book is an excellent read and personally challenged the way I view difficult experiences.
We break this podcast up into three of the four sections just as she does in her book:
1. Prison: “All your ecstasy in life is going to come from the inside.” Edith’s ballet teacher told her.
“We don’t know where we’re going, we don’t know what’s going to happen, but no one can take away from you what you put in your own mind.” Edith's Mother
2. Escape: “But if there is one small piece of hell I miss, it is the part that made me understand that survival is a matter of interdependence, that survival isn’t possible alone. Edith Eger
3. Freedom: “...By the time I would finish school I'll be fifty? He smiled. "You're going to be fifty anyhow” Bela Eger
"Time doesn't heal. It's what you do with the time. Healing is possible when we choose to take responsibility when we choose to take risks, and finally when we choose to release the wound, to let go of the past or the grief.” “To be passive is to let others decide for you. " Edith Eger
I really hope you enjoy the podcast this week! ~Holly
